Prosthetic Dental Treatment (Dentures)
What is prosthetic dental treatment?
Prosthetic dental treatment is a branch of dentistry that replaces missing teeth and soft tissues in the mouth with aesthetic and biocompatible materials.
What is a fixed prosthesis?
Fixed prosthesis is a type of prosthetic treatment applied to prepared teeth, healthy roots or implants in the mouth. If there is a single coating on each support structure, the application is called a crown, if there are more coatings than support structures, the application is called a bridge treatment.
Which materials are used in crown-bridge treatments?
Metal-supported porcelain, full porcelain or zirconia materials can be used in crown-bridge treatments. In recent treatments, full porcelain and zirconia coatings are preferred more with their many advantages.
How does the process work in making fixed prosthesis?
In the first appointment, the teeth are prepared as necessary and, depending on the suitability of the soft tissues, traditional or digital impressions are taken in the same session.
In traditional methods, the veneer is taken to the laboratory and a substructure trial is prepared. If there is no problem in the substructure trial, the veneer is taken to the laboratory again and its superstructure is prepared. After the necessary adaptations are made to the superstructure, the polishing and buffing process of the veneer is completed and it is temporarily/permanently cemented to the patient, usually on the same day.
In digital methods, the coating is created in a virtual environment on the scanned model and sent to the digital manufacturer. The resulting coating goes to the laboratory if deemed necessary for the last few aesthetic touches and polishing processes and is usually temporarily/permanently cemented (glued) to the patient on the same business day.
What is a removable prosthesis?
Removable dentures are a type of prosthetic treatment that the patient can insert and remove, supported by soft tissues in the mouth, healthy tooth roots and/or implants.
