Botox

What is Botox and what is it used for in dentistry?

Botox is a drug administered intramuscularly that reduces the contraction force of muscles. Botox treatment is successfully applied in dentistry to patients with overdeveloped chewing muscles, patients with teeth clenching and grinding habits, and patients with jaw joint problems related to this.

What is the effect of Botox treatment?

After Botox treatment is applied, it starts to show its maximum effect after about 2 weeks and this effect gradually decreases over time. The complete end of the effect period varies from patient to patient, but it takes an average of 4 to 6 months. After the end of the effect, 2, 3 or more treatment sessions may be required in necessary cases.

Does Botox treatment take long and is it painful?

Applying Botox treatment to the masticatory muscles requires a session of approximately 5-10 minutes and is a fairly painless procedure.

Are there any restrictions that need to be followed after Botox treatment?

We recommend the following to patients who receive Botox treatment:

  • Do not wash your face with hot water or take a shower for at least 24 hours.

  • Avoid pressure on the treatment area and do not massage the area for at least 24 hours.

  • Sleep with your head slightly upright with two pillows for at least 24 hours.

  • Do not apply any cream or make-up to your face for at least 24 hours.
